Iceheart insisted on taking Dawnpaw as her own apprentice. She still had high expectations of Hailpaw, but more so used her as an example of what Dawnpaw shouldn’t be like. Hailpaw was meek, shy, and easily frightened, and tended to cry a lot. The siblings, for obvious reasons, had quite a rift between them, and despite their efforts to stay close and confide in each other, Iceheart’s constant interference inevitably drove them apart. Iceheart was a ruthless mentor, sparing no expenses and working Dawnpaw to exhaustion. Iceheart made sure to drill strength into Dawnpaw's core.Praise was hard to come by, so any positive reinforcement Dawnpaw got from her mother, she soaked up like a lizard in the sun.
She lived to receive that praise, as she couldn’t get it from anyone else. She had been convinced that those who were like Hailpaw, or Owlfeather, or Citruspaw, were weak and not worth her time. She had a difficult time making friends, and couldn’t ever seem to keep friendly relations with anyone. Everyone knew how militaristic her mother was, and how hard Iceheart enforced those beliefs and behaviors on her, so Dawnpaw was often avoided by those she was not related to. She was prone to angry outbursts, having inherited her mother’s IED (Intermittent Explosive Disorder), and didn’t understand how to handle it. This contributed to her inability to get along with others.
Iceheart often took the two apprentices out to battle train together, mostly so that Dawnpaw would have another cat to use as an opponent. Battle was never Hailpaw’s strong suit, and she always hated these training sessions. They mostly consisted of Dawnpaw pummeling her sister with her superior strength and size. The dark tabby never really thought much of it at the time. Hailstorm tries hard to forget these training sessions, as they have left a lasting mental scar on her.
Dawnstripe earned her warrior name at 10 moons, about four moons before her sister did. 10 moons is quite young to become a warrior, but her ferocity and hardened nerves, as well as the young start she received from her mother, pushed her along more quickly. As a young warrior, she quickly realized how ambitious her mother was, and how badly she wanted to become clan leader. Iceheart was fiercely loyal to her clan, and had an immense amount of pride about it. The leaders of past moons were so kind and so passive that ShadowClan was always faded into obscurity, and she hated it. She wanted to change it. She wanted to make the clan stronger, louder, more powerful. She wanted to make sure nobody would ever look down upon ShadowClan again, and she, of course, pushed this agenda on Dawnstripe as well.
Due to all of that, Dawnstripe gained a similar ambition. She used to dream of being deputy, leading at her mother’s side. And when Icestar became clan leader, that ambition grew. Now that dream was a real possibility. She loathed the cats who were put in that place, wanting so badly to be the one up there. Icestar wanted to appoint her daughter as deputy, but they had a falling out, which ended in Icestar choosing Beastspark instead. That just about brings us to the present day. Dawnstripe remains power hungry, determined to someday take that spot beneath the highbranch, and eventually, lead the clan.
The more Dawnstripe watched and observed the tom who stole her place beside her mother, the more she determined that he'd never be taking over ShadowClan as leader. He was far too soft-hearted, a real fighter on the battlefield, but a sniveling fool when it came to leading or taking real action. Beastspark, the behemoth, was a mere place holder as deputy, a place she would swipe right out from underneath his paws as soon as Icestar tired of him.
She focused long and hard on her training, fighting in every raid her mother order against RiverClan and ThunderClan. Bicking and fighting with Hailstorm the further her sister grew from the ideal warrior Icestar expected them to be. Dawnstripe would look further down on Beastspark after the deputy allowed WindClan to take cover in Waterbarn, which was supposed to be ShadowClan's second home away from home, after the clan of bunnies was attacked by coyotes. Doubt slowly grew in her mind about her mother's mental state when not only did she not chase out the vermin, but she actually decided to bring some bunny defectors into ShadowClan with her.
Not long after WindClan finally left, Dawnstripe's concerns about defectors came true when Foxbite, a former senior warrior of WindClan, went cannibal and decided to maul several young ShadowClan kits. Dawnstripe fought off the hungry fox, chasing him off where he'd died from his wounds later. Thankfully, the rest of the WindClan defectors eventually vanished and went missing from ShadowClan. Life slowly went back to normal, until Dawnstripe obtained an apprentice.
Successful finishing the training of a young apprentice Blackpaw, who would earn the warrior name Blackhaze, and stir up trouble with WindClan after murdering one of their apprentices. A spark of hatred would grow within her chest for WindClan's newest leader, Twilightstar, when the cat not only openly challenged her mother and clan but looked down on the very warrior Dawnstripe trained.
[A little bit before this part I adopted her.]
This spark would grow into a wildfire when Twilightstar decided that a simple beating wouldn't be enough for ShadowClan. Directly on a night after a Gathering, Twilightstar had her cats follow ShadowClan home and ambushed them in their own territory. Destroying their dens and chasing out their kits, queens, and elders, despite herself wanting to keep fighting, Dawnstripe and her clanmates were forced to retreat to Waterbarn(now the Mourning Ruins) only to find it on fire and burning with all their kits and queens still inside(unknowing set by RiverClan's former leader Lionstar/storm), Dawnstripe vowed revenge against WindClan for all the pain and suffering they caused ShadowClan.
Forced out of their territory and relying on the former leader of ThunderClan, now loner, Flintspirit, her hatred only grew have learned that Icestar lost a life in a fight against Twilightstar. The clan was moved to a refugee makeshift camp in the outskirts after WindClan claimed ShadowClan territory's as their own. In what would be known as the Icy Heartland's and the refuge camp turned into a future backup camp for ShadowClan, slowly but surely ShadowClan recovered and returned to claim their territory. As if to add insult to injury, instead of fighting to win it back, WindClan gifted their territory back, leaving without even lifting a claw.
As if the humiliation wasn't enough, while out following orders to make sure their territory was secure, Dawnstripe ran into an old former clan mate, her dear sister, Hailstorm showed up after abandoning the clan during WindClan's attack. Unknowing just how deeply Hailstorm's resentment for their mother went, Dawnstripe dragged her sister back to camp assured that Icestar would want to see Hailstorm. During a clan meeting to organize and rebuild the damaged WindClan had caused, with Hailstorm apprehended, Dawnstripe finally regained the lost trust she had with her mother, and Icestar finally demoted Beastspark and named Dawnstripe deputy in his place. Not even five seconds after the rank change, Hailstorm, surprising everyone, attacked Icestar, and ran off. When it was discovered that Icestar would not be returning, suddenly getting the one thing she's ever wanted only to have it ripped away from her seconds later, caused the small cracks in Dawnstripe's mind to completely shatter.
In a fit of insanity and emotional rage, she clawed up her own face, craving an X into her face. A few cats, alarmed and already restless with Icestar's cruel streak, attempted to kill Dawnstripe before she could officially take her place as ShadowClan's leader, what was worse was who they wanted to replace her with, the very apprentice that she trained, Blackhaze. Many just up and left the clan without even trying to understand what she was going through or giving her a chance. Still, she put down the rebellion quickly and called order to the clan just as fast. Disturbed and feeling a deep sense of betrayal from her sister, her former apprentice, and the very clan that she's done nothing but fight and serve tooth and claw, Dawnstripe obtained a deep paranoid distrust from everyone around her. Just waiting for the next cat to betray or try to kill her. Despite the betrayals, Dawnstripe's first priority was to get her clan to a stable camp.
After deciding to move camp, once she was certain the clan was safe within their new camp and everyone was situated, she left to obtain her nine lives and names. As she expected, StarClan shunned her after seeing her little fit of insanity, and with only one StarClan cat willing to give her a life, Dawnstripe turned her attention to the dark forest cats where she obtained the eight remaining lives, met her grandfather Wolverine, and discovered that her mother was cast into a realm in between the Dark forest and StarClan.
Dawnstar attempted to follow her mother's orders from beyond the grave and play nice with her clan and the other three clans, but the times she met and spoke with Twilightstar, the further away she grew from Icestar and more obsessed she became with Twilightstar and hurting WindClan, no longer able to see or hear her mother, Dawnstar fell deeper into her own desires of retribution and took the meaning of strength to a whole new level within ShadowClan. Well aware of her waning mental healthy, Dawnstar merely uses it to further her goals and plans, thinking of ideas no sane cat could have fathom let alone stomach.
A dispute that resulted in the death of a ShadowClan apprentice, had Dawnstar meeting up with Twilighstar and demanding that she either give Dawnstar one of her lives or the cat who killed the apprentice by the next moon. Upon not getting an answer, Dawnstar snuck onto WindClan territory and ran into Twilightstar herself, a brief fight resulted in Dawnstar killing the clan leader. Wanting to keep up the fun and cause some chaos, she kidnapped the WindClan leader while Twilightstar was stuck in StarClan recovering from the lost life. Dawnstar showed up not long after on WindClan territory again, this time waiting for a patrol to find her by the cliffs as WindClan scrambled to search for their lost leader.
The patrol brought WindClan's new deputy, Breezefeather, to speak to her, Unknown to the clan, Dawnstar had stumbled upon the former deputy, Coyotesnarl, at the border and ended up killing him in a fit of rage, leaving no trace that it was her, of course. Finding it funny how distraught Twilightstar was about it, on a spontaneous whim, she grabbed Breezefeather and ended up tossing him over the cliffside, killing him, and then killed another bunny warrior who attacked the same way her moments later.
After being brought to the camp once she told the cats she had Twilightstar, Dawnstar met Coldamber, the former WindClan medicine cat, with the promises of returning the leader after Dawnstar's had her fun, she took over WindClan, and merge it with ShadowClan for a little over a moon(Moonie had a head injury I had to take over the clan while she recovered).
WindClan eventually located Twilightstar with the help of the traitor, Beastspark, who left ShadowClan and grew to deeply respect Twilightstar after seeing how she got her clan back on its paws after the coyote attack. While Beastspark mounted a recuse with a few select cats, to keep Dawnstar from becoming suspicious about the missing WindClan warriors, Snaketumble, a simply WindClan warrior, struck a bargain Dawnstar after noticing her love upset the statist quote. He promised he could get WindClan to fight against ShadowClan during a Gathering. Enjoying the idea of pissing off StarClan, Dawnstar led the merge Shadow/WindClan to the gathering.
Upon discovering ThunderClan and RiverClan would not be coming to the Gathering, Dawnstar started the brawl herself by attacking Snaketumble. As a full-out fight between Shadow and Wind ensued, Beastspark and his company managed to find and save a badly tortured Twilightstar, Dawnstar had her fun while the cat was in her captivity, going as far as ripping out an eye, and so on. Stopping at the Gathering upon their return home, Twilighstar mustered up the strength to announce her return to WindClan by ending the battle at the Gathering with a surprise attack on Dawnstar that resulted in Dawnstar losing her first life.
After that things settled down in both Clans, Twilightstar mysteriously came back pregnant, and Dawnstar's been dealing with her rebellions and weakness in ShadowClan while having some fun knowing ThunderClan and RiverClan are currently at each other's throat. The whole feud between ShadowClan and WindClan is now stirred up once more by the border skirmish. A skirmished that went on for many moons, ending in several WindClan deaths, before finally in a decisive battle between the two leader and their clans, WindClan managed to win back their territory from ShadowClan after Dawnstar and Twilightstar ended up killing each other. After renforcing the fact that had the claws to match their grit, Dawnstar acknowledged WindClan as a worth rival and ended the feud that span several seasons, seeking neutrality with WindClan.
